1st Trip...

Every pick up was on time and in a squeaky clean new Mercedes Vans as we were a fully-luggaged party of 6. The drivers were charming, well informed, tolerant/indulgant of children and a complete pleasure at every moment. The tour portion of our trip that they arranged was perfect. Fabulous hotels. Fabulous restaurants......let them order. We can honestly tell you that we did not have one single complaint.

We had driven from Lisbon to Porto on our own. Then EuroAdventures took over. They had booked us in Porto, Baiona and Santiago de Campostela. George was our first driver and Sean was the second. We were driven right to the best spots, dropped off, shown where to shop, taken to great restaurants, and checked into our next hotel without our ever having touched the luggage.

When we were in Baiona we met another family from CA that was exhausted after driving from Santander through the mountains to Santiago de C and Baiona. EuroAdventures squeezed a favor in for them and got them Drivers for their next 2 legs back down to Lisbon.

We called them mid-trip when we were very disappointed with another hotel we booked on our own and they found us a fabulous vineyard hotel in the middle of nowhere (which is where we needed to be to go shooting the next day.)

I obviously recommend EuroAdventures very very highly.

My husband was only with us on part of this trip and when we go back I guarantee that we will book the entire trip with EuroAdventures. We were in Spain and Portugal for a month. The time that we were guided was more than well worth the guide fees and the hotels were the 'finds' that cost as much as a regular hotel but are truly a cut above. And I say that after having booked many of our hotels ourselves.

I can go on and rave forever - but if you have any questions just write me again. Boy was that worth it!

The driver made a special detour via the airport on our way to Toledo, in order to pick up one of our team members who had been delayed in joining us due to a death in his family. So it was fantastic that we were able to include him on the trip.

Hope this email finds you well and preparing for a great weekend. We have been back in the states since August 13th from the Queen Mary 2 cruise. We had a wonderful time and explored numerous countries and learned a great deal. However it is always nice to get home.

I wanted to send you some photos of our time with you in Vigo. We truly had a wonderful time with you all and realized that Vigo, Bayona and Galicia have a lot of offer and we would love to come back.

Also I wanted to express our sincerest thanks to you for your wonderful tour Sean as well as the tapas and wine which were wonderful. You are so well educated and familiar with so much about that Vigo and the entire region that it was a true pleasure to spend the day with you. Our whole family feels the same. You were the most informative out of all the tours on our entire trip! It would be a great pleasure to tour again with you and honestly hope that we will on your 2008 ship that we spoke about.

Mike it was great working with you on deciding what to do in Vigo and working out special packages for us there and the other countries we visited. It was great to meet you, unfortunately we didn’t have too much time after the tour, so that we will have to do on our next visit, or when you decide to come to Florida for a visit, please contact us and we will show you the area and sights!!

About the other ports:

Barcelona Spain– Guide was good, informative, personable, he was genuine and very helpful, he allowed plenty of time for anything, and we had a great lunch at Tragaluz that Mike referred us to.

Lisbon Portugal – Guide was great. Very knowledgeable, born and raised in Lisbon and very intellectual and knew a lot about everything there was to see. He was younger (such as you) and was hip and related to us younger people great as well as the parents (such as you did). He was our 2nd favorite next to you!!! We would 100% request him again

I wanted to pass this on in good faith, not in anyway a reflection of you, but just so you know for the future on reviews of these guides. This is however just our opinion. However we may have just been SUPERLY spoiled by you!!!

What a FABULOUS trip! I must say that was one of the best trips our community has been on. The guide that picked us up at the airport was very informative and accommodating on the pick up and return. The hotel was great. We really enjoyed the pool, courtyard and most of all... the air conditioning! The dinner was fabulous. The dinner/Flamenco dance was wonderful. Members sure enjoyed the traditional Paella dinner. The half day tour guide was amazing. He really worked with our (sometimes lagging) group and was very informative. We were really impressed with him. He even helped us to locate the ticket agency for bullfighting in Santa Maria and a few members rented a van and went to a bullfight while all the rest went to Isla Magica and got soaking wet on the rides!

I am settled back into my routine and wanted to share a few thoughts with you on the experience EuroAdventures facilitated. I only have one word for EuroAdventures

AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in Barcelona more than five years ago and didn't see as much as EuroAdventures showed me. My experience was magical. Outside of the Flamingo event. I enjoyed everything. In fact, Saturday night I had so much fun that I woke up late and missed my 9 hour coach bus tour. In its place I substituted the official city bus tour on Sunday. I took the blue, red and green routes.

As for my food experience, I ended up dining at: 1) Cal PEP, 2) Ca L'Isidre, 3) Semproniana, 4) Trobador and 5) Montjuic El Xalet. Consequently, I can describe my dining experience as incredible.

I will definitely refer EuroAdventures to my friends and will make sure to continue to use your services the next time I vacation in Europe.

Our Andalusia trip was wonderful!! Driving in Spain is no picnic, but I did manage to get our rent-a -car and ourselves back in one piece. Our tour guides were excellent and very knowledgeable. Accomodations were very good to excellent, especially the Paradores Hotels in Arcos de la Frontera and in Nerja. Weather was great. Nerja is a wonderful costal resort and not overdeveloped. We highly recommend it. We drove to Gibraltar and back and were amazed at the overdevelopment between Malaga and Marbella. The highlight of the the trip was Granada and the Alhambra. Took over 300 pictures which I just downloaded

Just a short report regarding trip to Semana Santa , Granada and Seville.

Granada.
The hotel was very good and in good location.
Pick up and transfer to and from hotel was good and on time.
The guide Robert was excellent, did his research and was a great help. A true professional and a nice person. He also got a first floor balcony from which we observed a confrada, and tickets to the Alhambra even though it was fully booked out for the next 2 weeks.

Seville.
The hotel was excellenty located, and our room had a first floor balcony that overlooked the el Macarena confrada procession on the Friday morning which went by our hotel. It was an awsome experience, taking 3 hours to pass and was the highlight of our trip to Seville.

Overall the trip to the Semana Santa was very good and I achieved my photographic goals as well as both of us having the priviledge to observe the holy week processions.

Ty and I are now back and finally rested from our speedy trip through Sweden, Denmark, and Barcelona. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Sean O'Rourke was my guide and interpreter for a week in July, which I spent near As Neves in Southern Galicia, conducting interviews, doing research and taking pictures for a book that will be published in 2004 (See here a summary of the chapter).

Because I required a totally customized itinerary, working with me would have put virtually anyone in the travel business through the most rigorous professional paces. 

He understands the Celtic history of the region and, of course, represents that culture himself. Because his wife was born in Galicia (his in-laws still summer in Arbo and Sean's family visits often) and his family lives in Vigo, so he is profoundly connected to the local culture and social life. He speaks both Gallego as well as Spanish fluently as well as English, of course.

Sean arranged for me to stay in a charming private manor house (with its own dovecote, granary, and chapel) in the middle of a vineyard. It was so far off the beaten path that I would never have found it alone--and I would have missed a great experience. I had been worried about finding vegetarian foods in this part of Spain which is renowned for its seafood. But the couple who ran this little inn created dinners for me from fresh, local ingredients that were so good they made my heart sing---and served me wines I enjoyed as much (perhaps more, but that is heretical!) than the wonderful California whites that are grown just an hour from where I live.

Sean proved to be energetic and unflappable. When my camera broke, he drove me quickly and delivered me safely to get other equipment, all before the festival that I wanted to shoot began. 

He is congenial; in restaurants-and even strolling down the street--people chatted with him comfortably and spontaneously, which afforded me an intimate look at life in this beautiful part of the world. 

Sean was not only expert on the subject of Galicia, but also imaginative and collaborative. I wanted to interview the Mayor? The Priest? The woman who sells octopus? No problem. 

It was a pleasure to have Sean's help on my project. I recommend without reservation, doing business with him and his firm, EuroAdventures.

This letter is in regards to the Celtic Galicia Wine Tour I recently took in Galicia, Spain.  I discovered this tour through a brief mention in Wine from Spain news magazine this spring. This was my third tour in Spain.  I chose it primarily because I love Spain's diversity and I have long been a fan of Spanish wines.

Following is a brief comment of the various categories by which I rate the tours I have taken (30+ throughout Europe, and parts of Asia, Africa and the Americas):

* Sites visited  - A wonderful mix of what I expected and never expected in Spain.  Cathedrals, monasteries, large and small cities, villages, wonderful scenery of all types, a river trip.  Museums covered art, fishing, ancient and more recent culture.  And then there were Celtic forts and thatched houses, Celtic and Roman archaeology sites.  So many tapas stops to watch the people fish or clam, or listen to local music, or just enjoy.  We traveled the more scenic routes instead of major highways. We visited small family wineries and small to large commercial concerns. This was the real thing, not just tourist rooms and sales shops.  The winery personnel were friendly and informative.

 * Accommodations  - Each place had its own distinctive quality.  There were a few excellent hotels in the large cities, but most were through the Rural Tourism effort.  These were the B&Bs or restored Manors.  The owners were obviously so delighted and treated us as guests.  Each was lovely - one with the 1800's family coat of arms proudly displayed, another atop a mountain with an unbelievable view, another with beautiful needlework of several generations.  Many had beautiful antiques.  One I thought a small palace, but it was a fortified manor.  Each was so special, I can not say for sure which stands out the most.

* Food / Wine  - No mystery meat and canned veggies here.  It was all high quality and huge quantities, which I now understand is the Galician way.  I found myself eating things I thought I didn't like, and others I never heard of - razor clams and barnacles!!!  After the first few days, I tried anything they set before me.  The home cooked meals at the manors were superb.  The restaurants were great - real local people, not tourist stops.  At one, we met some Americans visiting their Galician relatives; this was where they were taken to show off the local cuisine.  Then there was a local pub in the mountains were the pipers and other musicians gathered.  The meal was wonderful, but topped by the improvised performance they gave us.  Throughout Galicia, the seafood was so fresh and quite different than anything I've had before.  I'm not quite sure what all the meats are some like: veal, baby goat, prime grade beef etc.., I'll vouch for their tastiness and preparation.

* Personnel (professionalism, friendliness, courtesy, knowledge) - Far from just reading out of tour guides, Sean O'Rourke has immersed himself in his adopted country and truly wants you to understand and enjoy its culture.  He is well versed in the various topics covered on the tour such as Celtic forts and music, the religious pilgrimage in Santiago, Galician- Roman- Celtic history, etc. Marcos Garcia, a native of the land is Sean's business partner & bus operator, he has an impressive knowledge especially in the areas of wine making, archaeology and ancient history.  The tour was very well run, but they remained flexible so that we could stay longer in a particular village we loved or skip the beach when it was too cloudy.  They were particularly considerate of any special needs.  I myself needed a little help climbing due to a back injury.  The people at the manors and B&Bs treated us as friends.  We met their families and neighbors, and played with their pets.  It was mutually enjoyable.

 * Overall Value/Price  - A bit more than the average, but that's more than made up by the personalized service, and quantity and quality of everything included - as 28 meals in 12 days.  This is a FIND.
 
In summary, this tour is the unqualified best I have ever experienced in any category.  This is the first time I have returned from a tour with the feeling that I truly experienced the culture and ambiance of the country. It is a Gastronomic & Spirit Adventure. I will travel with EuroAdventures Vacations again as they add new tours, and have recommended them very highly to several friends.  I very much encourage you to support their efforts as EuroAdventures Vacations very much promotes the Food, Wine and Culture of  CELTIC GALICIA, Spain.

Let me tell you a bit about our trip you planned for us.

The Trip to Jerez was overall fantastic. Except for finding how to get through the town. Believe me even the natives were getting lost!! Javier was just great and his personal attention was most appreciated. The horse show was spectacular in a formal way as compared to the one in Torremolinos, which we saw a few years ago, which was more "Hollywood" style. The highlight of the day was the Lunch and the private room we had (thank God with the noise this group can make). The Food, wine, and service was superb. The next was the brief visit to the fair and all the celebration. If we only knew how fantastic it was we would have booked a night stay over. Tio Pepe tour, which we had visited before, was very well done and most enjoyable.

The Rioja tour was fantastic! The preparation to detail was obvious and most appreciated. The hotel accommodations in Laguardia were perfect. The lunches and dinners were true culinary delights and the wines selected were fine. The tours to the various wineries was very interesting and the whole trip overall flowed very well. The young man, Jose Antonio Roca Bellger (Joseph to us) was Muy Simpatico! His attention and concern for every one was amazing.

Madrid was most enjoyable as always and the rooms at Hotel Ambassador were great so to the location. The side trip to Avila/Segovia was another highlight. Joseph arranged for the son of Mr. Candido to personally perform the ceremony over the pig at our table and the breaking of the plate he used to cut up the little thing after. Talk about important?! 

Needless to say we had a few negatives along the way but clearly the tour was great and you can be proud of your hard work and efforts.

I will send you some of the photos I took with my new digital camera once I have put them together. Also I will send you a bit more detailed comments, which may be helpful in perfecting a perfect trip!

Remember us? Last summer you escorted my family on a fabulous three day tour of the Rias Baxias and Ribeira Sacra wine regions, leaving from our chalet in Sanxenxo. We returned home yesterday afternoon, from a wonderful trip; we certainly feel that we have discovered a new hobby in Port wine!

I must say, we found the Vintage House to be far and away one of the nicest places we have stayed in our travels; the service was incredible, the amenities were luxurious, food outstanding, and of course, the setting was breathtaking.

We loved the Porto experience so much, that we would like to do it again, with Jim's parents.

Just thought I'd drop a note to tell you we've gotten back to the states all in one piece! We had a wonderful time driving the coast, through Vigo and then on to Portugal. We actually took the ferry across from La Guardia. We stopped for the afternoon in Viana de Castelo and then through Braga to Chaves. Then on to Aveiro, Obidos (we were there for the medieval fair), Cascais, (a very nice town with great beaches) and then Lisbon. I wished I had allowed for a little more time in Lisbon as there was a lot to see but we just didn't have that much time!

Our day in A Coruña was wonderful...we had a great tour and a lot of laughs.

Just a note to say that the hotel was brilliant, although I think we may have been a wee bit loud on the first night we arrived (hope you didn’t get any complaints!!).

There are a couple of pics, one is of four of us at the Cathedral in Seville (alongside 90,000 Celts).

Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our trip to Portugal.

Your selection of the Albatroz and Sheraton Algarve were excellent.

We had rooms at the Albatroz overlooking the pool with the ocean in the background. We took the train into Lisbon Saturday morning for a little sightseeing and took a taxi back. Our daughter, Stephanie, sunbathed in the afternoon while Sue and I walked along the beach. Dinner in the restaurant at the Albatroz was superb. Stephanie said that it was the best seafood meal she ever had.

On Sunday, we drove along the coast north of Cascais to the westernmost point in continental Europe, then headed south to the Algarve. The Sheraton Algarve was also wonderful. Our rooms also overlooked one of the pools with the ocean beyond. During our stay here we walked along the beach and sunbathed a lot.

Our only outing was to Sagres, the south-western tip of Portugal. The food was also very good.

The car we rented was called a Toledo. It had a lot of pick up, handled well, and the trunk easily fit all of our luggage. We were very satisfied with the car.

By the way, thanks for making the calls to Europcar and the Albatroz when we missed our connecting flight to Lisbon.

All in all, our experience in Portugal was first rate. We've been talking about a return trip in the not too distant future. If Spain is in our plans, you will definitely be hearing from us.

I promised to get back to you with my comments about the trip to Spain, so here goes:

1. We liked our rental cars (just the right size) and have figured out where the extra day of rental came from (we added a day and forgot).

2. We loved our guides, although some were better than others. The guide in Barcelona was very knowledgeable and patient with us and our questions. He gets top ratings from us. The guide in Madrid for the Prado was also excellent. She took us to the right rooms, in the right order and gave us a great overview. Also very knowledgeable and patient. The Dali museum guide was all very interesting, but maybe we needed more context to put it all in.

3. Your restaurant picks were good -- as I recall, we never had a bad meal.

4. San Sebastian worked well for us, and we ended up staying there while doing the French portion of the trip. We loved the France side, which was very different and even more beautiful than the Spanish frontier in my opinion.

5. We didn’t like Pamplona much (it was raining), but we loved seeing some of the little medieval towns around that area, especially one – which was beautifully preserved on a mountain (I forgot the name already). We wished we had a EuroAdventures guide with us there!

I have been working with Sean O'Rourke for almost two years. I was first introduced to him with a .com company that I had been working with. I have been in the travel industry for 33 years. I know the importance of preferred suppliers. Sean is the exception. He will mark up the products as I wish. He will quote to customer directly but copies me on everything. This is the way we have it set up. I have an excellent client that was looking for something special in Spain. These clients are extremely well read. Sean was able to custom make arrangements for them that were fantastic. Here is another example of someone that I used Sean for she was an interior decorator and he was a CEO. They both had different ideas of what they wanted to do. Sean worked with them, freed me up to take care of other clients and the commission came swiftly. Part of the reason that these clients come to mind is that about a week before they left SFO she tore her Achilles tendon and was able to travel but in a wheelchair. Sean had to make special arrangements for them and their luggage. They brought tons of luggage and Sean set up so their luggage was shipped to the next city where they were do to stay. I truly believe that he is the best contact I have found in many years in this industry and he is very well connected and knows his product.
