If you are in Barcelona we suggest you discover one of the richest culinary
regions in Catalonia ,the Baix Emporda, an area between the foothills of the
Pyrénées and the Costa Brava, and then a visit to Gerona, unknown to many
tourists and a great surprise for the visitor.
You will discover first the best Spanish wines and Specialty Foods at a Gourmet
Shop in Palafrugell, heart of the Costa Brava. The tasting will be conducted by
an expert at Can Serra. This gourmet shop is a century-old delicatessen , wine
and cheese shop. Now in its fourth generation at the shop, the Serra family
focuses on artisan products with a fine collection of Spanish cheeses,
especially farmstead cheeses, the best Iberico hams, from the Iberian black pigs.
There, you will enjoy surprising pairings.
After
the tasting you will go on a short visit to the most beautiful beaches of the
Costa Brava near Palafrufell and
from there you will be transferred to Girona. This is a
beautiful medieval town, North of Barcelona, with an impressive cultural
heritage and a magnificent and well preserved medieval historical center.
Girona is also known for the its large and rich Jewish history, considered as the third
most important in the country after the ones of Toledo and Cordova. Girona's
Jewish quarter flourished in the middle ages,. Today's Museum of Jewish History
perfectly recreates that period. You will be immersed in the mysterious tiny
alleys of the old town, where the walls are said to whisper the secrets of
hundreds of years of history.
