Introduction:


		Furnas is alive with volcanic activity, particularly at the site of the many caldeiras, where visitors can see the steaming geysers and hot bubbling springs (fumaroles) that provide the therapeutic mud and mineral water used for the spa´s treatments. The largest and nosiest of the hot springs is called Pêro Botelho, a 16th century name for the devil. On the west side of Lake Furnas lies Parque Terra Nostra, an enchanting park laid out more than 200 years ago in the style of an English garden. The hot springs on the lake´s northern shores are where the islanders have for generations come to cook cozido, a rich meat and vegetable stew boiled underground in a huge pot for between five and seven hours.

Day by Day Itinerary:


		1 Day (Duration: 08h00 approx.) DAY 1: SÃO MIGUEL ISLAND - Departure from the Hotel at 9:30 AM towards the Island´s north coast. - The first stop is in the Miradouro Santa Iria where a vast area of the Island´s northern coast area can be observed. - The next stop is at the Gorreana tea plantation and factory. - Crossing the Achada das Furnas plateau we reach the Pico do Ferro where you will be able to enjoy views over the Furnas valley and lake at the bottom of a large volcanic crater. - From there you will continue to the shores of the lake to watch the removal of the Cozido lunch which had been buried, and cooked, over a 6 hour period in the surrounding hot-springs area. - Lunch at a local restaurant in the Furnas village. - Following lunch, visit the Terra Nostra park where you will be able to see various botanical species and a natural thermal swimming pool. - Continue to the local hot-springs area to further observe volcanic phenomena. The Furnas valley, with its twenty two thermal springs is considered one the richest hydrological areas of Europe. - Return to Ponta Delgada passing the Furnas Lake, the village of Vila Franca, and the Agua dAlto and Milicias beaches. - Arrival at the Hotel around 5:30 PM.
