Travelling inland from Valencia, we come across the
region of the Denomination of Origin Utiel-Requena, located between the
Turia and Gabriel rivers.
The vast Campo de Utiel-Requena was always a region of natural transition
between the coastal plains and the Valencian Mediterranean foothills and the
Castilian tableland and this is still true today.
Currently, when the Requena and the region are mentioned it is generally in
connection with the viticulture and wine production, although it is only
around 150 years old.
 Today, 7,000 vine-growers work 41,000 hectares of vines owned by the DO
Utiel-Requena.
Until the second half of the 19th century, then wine harvest in these lands was
destined for own-consumption an dnot for foreign trade.
