 The TXAKOLI from GETARIA is more than just a wine with a personality of its own. It´s the inheritor of a culture and a tradition carried for centuries and it´s an element with its own voice in the life and customs of the Basque people. It´s in 1989, after a long renovating and fine-tuning process of the grape and winegrowing sector. The vineyard area covered about 60 hectares at that time and there were 12 wine cellars registered - 4 in Zarautz and the rest in Getaria. With this ratification, the genuineness of  cultivation and elaboration the Denomination of Origin of a type of wine "Txakoli" is recognized.
The Denomination of Origin GETARIAKO TXAKOLINA embraces the towns of Getaria, Zarautz and Aia. Both vineyards and wine cellars must be located in these townships.
