Paradores of Spain.
For
those of you who do not know what a "Parador"
is let us explain... They are a chain of historical and
regional establishments "Inns" in unique locations
and within monumental buildings like: Castles,
Monasteries,
Noble Mansions, Palaces...
The Spanish Paradores are one of the most prestigious
chains of hotels in Spain offering travellers a
comfortable and memorable stay when touring throughout this
vast country. Our specialists over the years have put
together various tour itineraries for clients including
selected paradores for their overnight stays. For example a
popular route you could choose from would be to follow the
ancient pilgrimage trail of St. James staying in historic paradores along the way ending the tour at the
Parador de Santiago - Hostal dos Reis Catolicos
(Former Hospital built by the Catholic Kings),
considered to be the oldest hotel in the world and
one of the most luxurious classed at a five star
grand luxury.
Another route to reach Santiago would be
across the northern coast of Green Spain
passing though the Basque Country, Cantabria,
Asturias and Galicia. Sleeping in
unforgettable paradores like:
Hondarribia,
Santillana de Mar,
Cangas de Onis,
Ribadeo, etc...
Leaving Santiago you could make your way
down the spectacular Rias Baixas coastline
of Southern Galicia visiting small fishing
villages, sampling wines and
indulging in the seafood this region is famed for. In
Cambados village, heart of the Albariño wine country
there is a
parador, which was the former Pazo de Bazán country house, an
ancestral mansion of the 17th century. Another
parador worth mentioning on this fantastic coast is in the
noble town of Baiona. Occupying the Monterreal
Peninsula, this is one of the most extraordinary Paradores,
half medieval fortress and half Galician stately
architecture facing the wild Atlantic sea.
Moving inland east you will reach the Ribeira Sacra river
valley another region of fine wines and
spectacular views of the Sil and Miño river
gorges. As legends tell us where monasteries can be
found there is bound to be good wine, that is the case of
this region making wines of the Mencia grape
variety. A few of these monasteries have been
beautifully restored into paradores like the
Santo Estevo de Rivas de Sil monastery, one of Galicia's oldest, founded in the 6th century.
In Monforte de Lemos the 17th Century
San Vicente do Pino Monastery overlooks this historic town.
Crossing the Castilian Plains you could stop to visit
some of the
Heritage Cities of Mankind;
Zamora,
Salamanca,
Avila and
Segovia staying in the paradores of these
monumental towns.
When trekking in the Pyrenees mountains or
wandering the Coast Brava in Catalonia excellent
rests stops are at the Paradores of
Cardona,
Aiguablava,
Arties,
La Seu d'Urgell,
Vic-Sau,
Vielha, etc...
Down South in
Andalusia many of the monumental towns/cities
like;
Cordoba,
Granada,
Carmona,
Ronda,
Ubeda, etc... have
historic or regional paradores to rest your head at
night after a day of sight-seeing.
If you are looking to just relax in one location for your
whole trip and do day outings, or at the end of doing a
route you could stay in a resort type parador like;
Malaga Golf or
El Saler.
In the sunny Canary Islands you can find a few
paradores located on
La Palma,
La Gomera,
El Hierro, and on
Tenerife at
Cañadas del Teide. All perfect options for an island stay suitable for
couples
and families.
Apart from the above mentioned paradores you can take a look
through our
full list of paradores and choose the ones you like best for your next vacation
in Spain. If you would like one of our specialist
to
create a customized parador route
for you then let us know!

What Clients are saying about EuroAdventures...
Mary Hormaechea
Boise, ID United States
Just wanted to report that we were very, very pleased with the trips you
designed for us. Our group was generally delighted with EuroAdventures -
as was I - and you will certainly get our high recommendations. Indeed,
we all have now discussed that we are deeply regretting that we did not
include Galicia in our itinerary, as it sounds like an area that we
would all like very much...
