The first trips of discoveries Portuguese starting from about 1419. Lagos played
a fundamental part in the geneses of the Portuguese Discoveries. With effect,
this port, since the first years of the XV century, was involved in the
organized discovery trips by the Infante Dom Henrique and for other magnates’
Portuguese. The Discoveries marked the opening of the Modern World, a world to
the progressive unification. Sagres it was where Infante D. Henrique founded his
celebrated school of marine navigation returned for the trips of the discoveries
and where we can find the rose of the winds that he was guided.

CAPE ST. VINCENT - SAGRES - LAGOS - SILVES

will pick you up from your hotel in the
Algarve
- Beginning in the early 15th-century,
the Portuguese began to lay the foundations
of a powerful, maritime empire. Begin this
tour by exploring the old Moorish capital,
Silves. Here you will visit the cathedral,
castle, and archaeological museum. Then,
continue on to Lagos, known as the 'Gold
Coast' because of its distinctive yellow
rocks. This port was the base for many
voyages by Portuguese entrepreneurs,
including Henry the Navigator. Hear how he
financed many expeditions and supposedly
founded a school of marine navigation. Enjoy
a relaxing lunch break before continuing to
the most south-westerly village on mainland
Europe, Sagres. Finish at the rugged,
windswept Cape of St. Vincent and retreat to
a charming tea house for delicious teas and
coffee.
