Introduction:

Largest place in the Azores and capital of São Miguel since 1522, Ponta Delgada is a flat town that stretches along a bay on the island´s south coast. Boasting many impressive churches, convents and majestic white houses, visitors are constantly reminded of its wealthy and illustrious past, when the port was a crucial staging post between Europe and the New World during the Age of Discovery in the 15th and 16th centuries.

Ponta Delgada is a good base from which to make day tours of the volcanic crater lakes and thermal springs in the centre of the island. A short drive north-west of the city is the spectacular setting of Caldeira das Sete Cidades, an extinct volcano which holds two adjoining lakes, one emerald-green and the other sapphire-blue.

Day by Day Itinerary:


		1 Day (Duration: 08h00 approx.) b>DAY 1: SÃO MIGUEL ISLAND - Departure from the Hotel at 9:30 AM. Taking the Island´s southwestern road towards Varzea, we arrive at the Sete Cidades volcanic crater with its Blue and Green lagoons, a protected area located in the western part of the Island. - Coffee stop and return to Varzea using the same road with another stop at the Miradouro do Escalvado. - Tour continues through the northwestern route, crossing the Island´s central mountain range, in direction of Bretanha, an old village established by French fishermen. - Lunch with regional dishes at the Cavalo Branco restaurant. - Following lunch, visit to the Pineapple Greenhouses in the surrounding area of Ponta Delgada where the various growth phases of the fruit can be observed with the opportunity to taste the pineapple liqueur. - Return to the Hotel at 5:30 PM. . L
