During this trip you will see different regions and landscapes of the Rioja.
You’ll bike along the endless vineyards where the excellent Rioja wine is
produced, along rolling hills, beautiful villages and will have
great views on the windings of the river Ebro. You’ll follow for a while the
Pilgrim’s Road to Santiago through interesting places like Logroño,
Nájera, and Santo Domingo de la Calzada. But the Rioja is even
more than that. We also would like to show you the other part of the Rioja, the
Sierra de la Demanda, so we decided to lead this tour through the most northern
spurs of these mountain ranges, where cycling won’t be too strenuous.
You will start in Haro, the most important town of the wine-producing
area, with a beautiful town square. In summer people celebrate the “wine-battle”.
You will head out for Logroño, the capital of the Rioja. A lovely
countryside, monumental villages like Labastida and the walled Laguardia,
with narrow streets. The next days you will see pilgrims on their way to
Santiago and make a detour to the monasteries of San Millan de la Cogolla.
From Ezcaray you enter the Sierra de la Demanda, with green forests, pastures
and typical mountain villages. You certainly will bring home some fine
Rioja wine.
This tour is of an easy/medium level. Anyone normally fit is able to
enjoy this biking tour. Please contact us if you want bicycle routes of a higher
level. We will inform you.
Your luggage will be transported from one hotel to the other. So you only will
carry a daypack or similar to carry snacks, a water bottle, and other personal
items you wish to have for the day (binoculars, camera, etc)
