One of the richest culinary regions in Catalonia is the "Baix Emporda", an area which straddles the foothills of the Pyrenees and the coast, close to the "Costa Brava", the rugged coastal area to the north of the province of Girona. If you are in Barcelona and would like to know the roots of Catalan cuisine, we suggest you this one-day excursion.
Assist to an introductory lesson to the cuisine of this interesting region and learn how to prepare some recipes, such as the meat and fish combinations called "mar y montaña" - sea and mountain. The cooking session takes place at the "Aula Gastronomica de L' Emporda", a professional cooking school close to the town of Palafrugell (about 2 hours from Barcelona).
After that, we will transfer you to Girona. Unknown to many tourists, this town is a great surprise for the visitor. Its Jewish Quarter is considered as the third most important in the country after the ones of Toledo and Cordoba. One of the most important monuments of the city is the Arabian Baths. The structure of this Romanesque building is an imitation of the medieval Moslem baths that were used as public baths from the 12th century till the 15th. You will have the opportunity of doing a guided tour of the town, visiting these and other monuments such as the extraordinary Cathedral.
