Our Wines of Catalonia day trip is fun, informative and educational, as well
as a very unique opportunity to try a variety of fabulous wines and cavas (which
are Spanish sparkling wines/champagne) and have a great meal in an amazing
environment. Just south of Barcelona lie the green valleys and
rolling hills of the world renowned Penedès, Spain wine region, the
perfect place for a day escape side trip. Known as cava country due to
being the biggest and best producer of Cava (Spanish champagne),
this
Spanish wine region boasts many notable red and white wines, as well. The hills
of Alt Penedes are our destination for this wine excursion, where we enjoy
exclusive visits to the vineyards and cellars of small wine and cava makers
producing the most innovative and high quality wines in the Penedes wine
country.

1 Day (Duration: 06h00)
DAY 1:
BARCELONA
- Start with a short drive from
Barcelona to El Penedes wine region
- We visit a very small vineyard in Alt
Penedes, which is the upper part of the
Penedes wine region, about 40 minutes
southwest of Barcelona.
- Alt Penedes is known for its
smaller-batch, more specialized wines, and
this vineyard is no different. After a short
trip out to the fields for a brief history
of the wine region, the grapes grown here
and the processes used, we go into the
facilities for an explanation of the
equipment used to elaborate the wine, the
storage processes and the bottling methods.
- Then we head down to the cellar for very
generous tastings of a white, a
Cabernet-Merlot rosé, a Cabernet reserve
red, a natural brut reserve cava and a
moscatel (sweet wine).
- All of this is enjoyed over a meal of
traditional Catalan food...select cured
meats and cheeses, olives, bread with tomato
and olive oil, and Spanish tortilla (sort of
like a quiche).
- After departing from the first winery,
we'll stop off at a second small vineyard
for a short tour and 3-4 product tasting of
their fantastic wines and cavas
- Return to Barcelona
