 Since its inauguration in 1997, the Guggenheim and the dog Puppy - a floral sculpture by Jeff Koons beside the museum- have become the most international symbol of Bilbao. Leading art-lovers of the world have lent objects of art to the Museum on a temporary basis, such as Giorgio Armani, David Salle, Chillida, Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons and Robert Rauschenberg. The museum also offers a series of activities for visitors wishing to broaden their artistic horizons. It houses its own private collection, in addition to sharing with New York and Venice the world's largest and most impressive private collection of modern and contemporary art.
