In 1860, Don Camilo Hurtado de Amézaga, Marqués de Riscal abandoned the traditional methods of elaboration of the area and inaugurated the Modern Age of Rioja wines. The starting point was the implantation of wine culture and technology imported from Bordeaux, at that time the centre of the winemaking revolution.
